One Person is Dead Following a Shooting in Kendallville

KENDALLVILLE, IN - One person is dead following a shooting at Kendallville gas station.

According to a news release from the Kendallville Police Department, officers were called just before midnight Sunday on a report of a shooting at Gallops, located at 1215 West North Street in Kendallville. A 911 caller advised that there were several people shot and there was one shooter. The caller also indicated that the shooter had left the scene. Officers from the Kendallville Police Department and the Noble County Sheriff’s Department arrived roughly 3 minutes later and found three victims with apparent gunshot wounds.

Soon after, EMS and fire and rescue responded to the scene. Two victims were transported to area hospital where they were listed in critical, but stable condition. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following life-saving efforts, officers immediately began investigating the incident and if identified a person of interest. Investigators are searching for 24 year old Matthew Rodriguez. Rodriguez is described as being 5’8” tall, weigh 225 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Rodriguez should be considered “armed and dangerous”. Rodriguez is reported to have been driving a red, 2010, Kia Forte, bearing Indiana license plate AYW 713. Anyone having information on the whereabouts of Mr. Rodriguez should contact authorities immediately.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. At this time no further details are being released pending notification of family members and further investigation.

The Kendallville Police Department were assisted by officers from the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, as well Police Departments from Avilla, Loonier, Albion, & Rome City. Providing emergency assistance at the scene was the Kendallville Fire Department in Parkview Noble EMS. The Noble County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana State police are also assisting in the investigation.
