Thursday, November 6, 2025
(ANGOLA) - Opening arguments start Thursday morning in the trial of a former Steuben County Sheriff’s Detective. KPCNEWS.com reports 33-year-old Austin Rowland of Fremont is accused of Level 6 felony official misconduct and three misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief for his actions during a drug raid in September of 2023 in which Rowland reportedly stabbed a flat screen tv with a knife, smashed two security cameras with an ax, and then used the ax to chop holes into the doors of a Chevy pick up that was not covered by the search warrant. Rowland was formally charged in October, 2024, after which he turned himself into authorites, immediately resigned from the Sheriff’s Department, and pled not guilty. The trial is expected to be completed this week. This article written by Lynn Thompson of kpcnews.com has more background and details on the case.
