Some Fremont Residents Being Asked to Remain in “Shelter in Place”
Monday, June 21, 2021

FREMONT, IN - Some residents of Fremont are being asked to remain in “shelter in place” after the town sustained a considerable amount of damage from storms.

Officials with Steuben County 9-1-1 are asking Fremont residents near or on South Wayne and Broad Street to stay inside their homes and remain in shelter in place due to power lines being down in that area. Help is on the way for those residents according to the Steuben County 9-1-1 call center.

Motorists are also asked to avoid that area, as well as the portion of 827 south of Fremont to Swager Drive near Cardinal IG.

First responders, emergency personnel, and utility line workers are helping area residents and for right Fremont seems to be the hardest hit area in Steuben County.

Due to the power outage in Fremont, Superintendent Willian Stitt advises that all sessions of summer school at Fremont Community Schools are cancelled for Monday.

If a power line is down at your residence or near you, please stay in your home. This also applies when you are in a vehicle. Always wait until a qualified emergency worker or utility worker can ensure your safety before you move from your location.
