(INDIANAPOLIS) - Residents in Steuben, DeKalb, LaGrange and Noble counties who suffered storm damage may now qualify for state disaster assistance after Governor Mike Braun issued a disaster emergency declaration covering 63 Indiana counties.

The declaration follows this week's severe weather, including tornadoes, flooding and widespread wind damage across northern Indiana.

The order allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to begin providing financial assistance through the State Disaster Relief Fund to qualifying residents with eligible storm-related expenses.

"Many Hoosier communities were impacted by the severe weather that swept through our state this week," Braun said. "This emergency declaration ensures that every available state resource is mobilized quickly to support response efforts, help local governments address urgent needs, and help Hoosiers recover."

The declaration remains in effect for 30 days and allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance to impacted families who have eligible expenses under the State Disaster Relief Fund program.
