BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. - A road rage incident on U.S. Highway 12 allegedly led to a Branch County Sheriff's Deputy being injured.

The Michigan State Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 near the intersection of U.S. 12 and Garfield Road.

The BCSD deputy later identified as Deputy Kevin Butters was turning east on U.S. 12 following reports of a road rage incident between two drivers when his patrol car was struck by a semitruck.

Reports from Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler state the driver of the semi was not ticketed, but he said Deputy Butters had his lights and siren activated.

Undersheriff Eichler also reported the two alleged road rage drivers were later found and stopped by Coldwater Police and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Butters reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injures to the left side of his body as his patrol car was struck on the drivers side.

He was released after being treated at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.

The patrol car was described as totaled.

The intersection was closed down for a least two hours while Michigan State Troopers conducted their investigation.
