PLEASANT LAKE - The historic Pleasant Lake Elementary School may not have a long future with the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County.

A meeting to discuss, "Future Planning for Pleasant Lake Elementary School," will be taking place on Thursday, March 7 a 6 p.m. in the Pleasant Lake Elementary School Gymnasium.

The meeting will be open to the public and public input and comments will be allowed during the meeting.

The Board of School Trustees Work Session came following a demographics presentation presented to the MSD of Steuben County School Board by the McKibbon Group during the February 20 school board meeting.

McKibben Demographic Research Senior Demographer Jerome McKibben gave a demographics presentation regarding all of the elementary schools within MSD of Steuben County after a request from MSD Superintendent Matt Widenhoefer.

MicKibben stated no growth is projected for Pleasant Lake Elementary School, for multiple reasons; but primarily, because of the lack of growth within the Pleasant Lake Township itself.

"Only 1/3 of the households in the Pleasant Lake area have children," said McKibben.

He does not see this changing because the population and housing are also not predicted to increase

Going forward, McKibbon said Pleasant Lake's student population is predicted to not increase a maximum of 100 students and will likely, "bounce between 80 and 100 students."

Pleasant Lake was originally built in 1915 as a K-12 school.
