COLDWATER, Mich. – A Bronson couple who led the Branch County Police on a Chase on Friday were arraigned on Saturday and Monday.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department said they pulled over a 2016 Toyota Tacoma near U.S. 12 and Michigan Avenue in Coldwater last Friday, January 26.

Coldwater’s new automated license plate readers triggered an alert when a stolen vehicle out of Clinton County passed by one of their cameras at about 1:53 p.m.

The truck fled the scene when BCSD deputies attempted to stop it. Deputies gave chase with speeds over 100 mph and apprehended two people when the suspect vehicle drove into a field near Nash and Garfield Roads.

Scott Allen Calloway, 50, of Bronson was charged with second degree fleeing from a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.

Court records state Calloway tried to run away from a BCSD deputy after the pursuit ended. As he was being arrested, the deputy found what appeared to be meth inside of a flashlight. Calloway was convicted in March of 2017 of third degree fleeing and eluding in Branch County Circuit Court.

Calloway stood mute during his arraignment and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

His bond was set at $125,000.

A probable cause hearing was set for February 8 with a preliminary exam on February 14.

Stephanie Nikole Thyng, 30, of Bronson was formally charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.

Court records state Thyng ran from the vehicle and had to be tackled in nearby woods by BCSD deputy.

Her bond was set at $5,000.

A probable cause hearing was set for February 8 with a preliminary exam scheduled for February 13.
