Man Hit On Toll Road In Steuben County While Rescuing His Dog

STEUBEN COUNTY - A Virginia was seriously injured after he was struck by a semi while rescuing his dog.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25 Jack Holdren, 22, of Williamsburg, Virginia was changing a flat tire near mile marker 147 on the Indiana Toll Road.

Holdren's dog jumped out of the car and walked out into the road to grab his dog when he was struck by Leonard Murphy, 64, of Polk, Ohio.

Holdren suffered multiple serious injuries. He was transported by Steuben County EMS to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was noted to be both alert and conscious.

Authorities said Holdren's dog was not injured.

When troopers arrived they found the dog back inside the car and transported to the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County.

The accident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
