Sturgis Woman Arrested For Stealing A Horse And Buggy

STURGIS, Mich. – A suspect has been arrested for stealing an Amish buggy and horse.

The Sturgis Police were called to the Wal Mart Store on South Centreville Road at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, January 20 for a report of a stolen buggy and horse.

The victims had gone shopping and came out to find their horse and buggy stolen.

A truck driver parked in the Walmart lot, told officers he watched a women steal the buggy and gave officers a description of the suspect.

Police say they had contact with the suspect earlier in the day at Walmart.

An officer located the unoccupied buggy and horse in the 1200 block of East Chicago Road later that evening.

The suspect, a 31 year old Sturgis woman, was contacted by police at a nearby motel and then arrested without incident.

She is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of larceny and larceny of livestock.

The horse and buggy were returned unharmed to the victims.
