Bicyclist Sustains Serious Injuries In Crash With a Steuben County Dump Truck

ANGOLA, IN - A bicyclist sustained serious injuries following a Tuesday afternoon accident.

At around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday Steuben County Communications was notified of a truck versus bicycle crash on Wendell Jacob Avenue (CR 200 North) near Glendarin Way.  

Investigators with the Angola City Police Department determined that a 2008 International 7400 Dump truck owned by the Steuben County Highway Department was eastbound on Wendell Jacob Avenue.  The dump truck was being driven by Jared Perkins, age 43 of Montgomery, MI.  A bicycle was eastbound ahead of the dump truck, being operated by Susan Stroh, age 67 of Angola.

The initial investigation found that the cyclist was struck from behind by the dump truck.  Stroh was transported to Cameron Hospital, where the Samaritan Helicopter was requested to transport her to Parkview Regional Medical Center.  Stroh suffered a head injury and broken bones and was last reported in Critical Condition.

Assisting the Angola Police Department were the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Steuben County EMS, Steuben County Communications, Parkview Samaritan, and the Angola Fire Department.  

At this time, alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash.  

The investigation is continuing.
