(GRIFFITH) - Police in Northwest Indiana say a man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing more than $6,200 worth of ice cream from delivery trucks over several weeks.
According to the Griffith Police Department, officers arrested Christopher Stewart after an investigation revealed he had repeatedly targeted delivery trucks, stealing a total of 258 cases of ice cream.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video and vehicle records, eventually tracking Stewart down. Police say he admitted to stealing the ice cream and selling it.
Stewart was booked into the Lake County Jail and now faces multiple charges, including theft with a prior conviction and theft of property valued over $750, both Level 6 felonies, along with leaving the scene of a vehicle crash, a Class B misdemeanor.
In a post on Facebook, Griffith police called it a "bold -- and chilly -- decision," adding it landed Stewart "on the naughty list."
Under Indiana law, a Level 6 felony carries a possible sentence of up to two-and-a-half years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
