(ANGOLA) - Pokagon State Park will help lead Indiana's celebration of America's upcoming 250th birthday with a First Day Hike on January 1st. The guided hike at Pokagon is part of a statewide effort by Indiana State Parks to kick off the new year -- and the nation's semiquincentennial -- with outdoor recreation and reflection. Pokagon's hike begins at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, one of dozens scheduled across Indiana on New Year's Day. Parks statewide will host guided hikes starting as early as 9 a.m. Other participating parks include Turkey Run, Brown County, Spring Mill, Indiana Dunes, Fort Harrison, Clifty Falls, and many more. Organizers say the hikes are designed for all ages and ability levels and encourage Hoosiers to start the year active while celebrating the nation's history. Participants are advised to dress for winter conditions and arrive early. A full list of hikes and start times is available through Indiana State Parks.
