(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Braun is encouraging Indiana communities to take part in celebrations marking America's 250th anniversary.

Braun met with local leaders in Dubois County Monday to discuss their plans for commemorating the anniversary and to highlight the Indiana 250 County Grant Program.

The program offers reimbursement funding to support local events, educational programs and community celebrations tied to America 250.

The Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission is offering each Indiana county one $1,000 grant to help cover costs connected to America 250 celebrations.

Grant applications may be submitted to cover costs retroactively through July 31, 2026.

Braun says America's 250th anniversary is a chance for Hoosier communities to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and principles that helped build the country. He is encouraging communities to use the grant program to create memorable experiences during the historic celebration.

Indiana's celebration also includes nine commemorative lanterns traveling through all 92 counties. The lanterns are inspired by Paul Revere's lantern signal of April 18, 1775.

After Independence Day, the lanterns will be permanently displayed in the Indiana War Memorial and will bear the names of the counties they visited.
