(INDIANAPOLIS) - Former Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb is helping lead a new national effort aimed at preparing workers for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

The Indiana Capital Chronicle reports Holcomb has been named co-chair of RAISE US, a nonprofit organization launched Thursday to help states, businesses and educational institutions develop programs that train workers for AI-related changes in the workforce.

Holcomb is co-chairing the effort alongside Gina Raimondo, the former governor of Rhode Island and former U.S. commerce secretary.

The organization says it has already secured more than $500 million in multi-year commitments toward a $1 billion fundraising goal. RAISE US plans to work with states, companies and academic institutions to fund and test programs designed to help workers adapt to AI-driven changes while maintaining employment opportunities.

According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, the initiative includes partnerships with companies and organizations connected to the AI industry, including Anthropic, Microsoft, the OpenAI Foundation, IBM, Cisco and Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Company.

In a statement announcing the effort, Holcomb said workforce development was a major focus during his time as governor and said states will play a key role in preparing workers for future careers shaped by artificial intelligence.

The Indiana Capital Chronicle reports the announcement marks Holcomb's most prominent public role since completing his second term as governor at the end of 2024.
