(ADRIAN) - An Adrian woman has been charged with open murder following the death of a hospice patient earlier this week.
Adrian police responded to a home at about 1:30 p.m. on June 8 for a reported civil problem or unwanted subject. Officers arrived and spoke with several witnesses, who reported that 61-year-old Frances Stewart had died inside the residence.
Investigators allege that a family member intentionally administered an overdose of medication to Stewart while she was receiving hospice care.
Police say Virginia Stewart is accused of removing Frances Stewart's oxygen mask and giving her an overdose of morphine.
Virginia Stewart was arrested and charged with open murder.
She was arraigned June 11 and ordered held on a $2 million bond.
Virginia Stewart is scheduled to return to court June 18 for a probable cause conference.
