(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana State Police are teaming up with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a statewide push to uncover counterfeit commercial driver's licenses. The joint effort is targeting individuals using fake IDs to obtain CDLs--something officials say poses both a safety risk and a security concern on Indiana's roadways. Investigators are reviewing suspicious licenses, tracking where they originated, and working with ICE to detain individuals attempting to use fraudulent credentials. State Police say the crackdown is not aimed at everyday truck drivers, but at those who may be in the country illegally or using false documents to bypass licensing requirements. Officials say the investigation is active and ongoing. So far, 21 individuals have been detained or deported in Indiana as a result of the probe, and more arrests are expected as ISP works to get bogus CDLs off the road.
