(ANGOLA) - Sewer bills in Angola could be headed higher as city officials look for ways to pay for millions of dollars in future utility projects. Topics covered in Monday night's meeting included:

UTILITY RATES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Consultants with Baker Tilly presented a long-range financial plan that includes approximately $13.8 million in planned sewer utility improvements and another $6.8 million in water utility projects over the coming years.

Officials discussed beginning the first phase of a proposed sewer rate adjustment later this year to help support future capital projects and utility system needs.

Council members also reviewed the potential impact of recent changes to Indiana local income tax laws and heard that city officials are beginning discussions with other local governments throughout Steuben County about how those changes could affect local government revenues.

DOWNTOWN DORA APPROVED

The council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance establishing a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, in downtown Angola.

The ordinance now moves forward through the state approval process before implementation. Once approved, patrons will be able to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating establishments and carry them within designated downtown boundaries during approved hours.

Participating businesses identified in the ordinance include:

• Buck Lake Bar & Grill

• Cork & Barrel

• The Venue

• Sutton's Deli

• Monument Pizza Pub

• The Moose Family Center

• Elixir

TRINE LIFT STATION PROJECT

The council approved a $98,400 agreement for engineering services related to the Trine University Lift Station Replacement project.

The work covers design of a new lift station intended to replace an existing facility near Thunder Drive and Trine University's athletic complex.

POKAGON UTILITY PROJECT

Council members approved Change Order No. 3 for the Pokagon Utility Project Division 4.

The change order adds $12,500 to the contract for additional repair and coating work.

DOWNTOWN FAÇADE GRANT

The council approved a façade grant agreement for Jenny Lou's Greenery at 107 West Gale Street.

The city will contribute $5,202.79 toward a project that will replace an existing garage door with a new insulated glass garage-style door.

The next Angola Common Council meeting is scheduled for June 15.
