(INDIANAPOLIS) - Top Indiana Republican lawmakers say no decisions have been made about extending Indiana's temporary gas tax suspension beyond early June.

According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, Mike Braun's current emergency declaration expires June 7th.

The declaration temporarily suspended Indiana's gasoline sales tax and gas excise tax, reducing prices by nearly 60 cents per gallon during May.

Braun first declared the statewide energy emergency April 8th, suspending the state's seven-percent gasoline sales tax. Last week, he extended the order and added a suspension of Indiana's 36-cent-per-gallon gas excise tax.

Under Indiana law, the governor cannot extend the emergency declaration again without approval from the Indiana General Assembly.

Rodric Bray said legislative leaders have discussed the issue but have not made any decisions about a possible special session.

Lawmakers say they hope global energy markets stabilize and fuel prices continue dropping without additional government action.

According to AAA, Indiana's average gas price was about $4.32 per gallon Tuesday, down from $4.78 last week.

State estimates show the combined sales and excise tax suspensions could reduce state revenue by about $104 million and local government revenue by about $52 million during the 30-day period.
