(COLUMBUS) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol says troopers will conduct statewide OVI checkpoints Friday, May 15th, as part of an effort to deter impaired driving.

The patrol says counties participating in the checkpoints will be announced the day before operations begin. Specific checkpoint locations will be released Friday morning. Local law enforcement agencies are expected to assist with the enforcement effort.

State officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead if alcohol will be involved and to arrange for a sober driver or alternate transportation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the checkpoints are intended to reduce impaired driving crashes, injuries, and deaths on Ohio roadways.
