(COLUMBUS) - Ohio's latest employment report shows job losses alongside a declining unemployment rate, a trend analysts say reflects shifts in the labor force.

Data shows the state lost about 5,400 jobs in February, while the unemployment rate decreased, according to analysis cited by Policy Matters Ohio.

Researchers say the change is largely tied to people leaving the workforce and no longer being counted as unemployed.

Estimates indicate roughly 2,000 Ohioans exited the labor force during that period, according to reporting from the Ohio Capital Journal.

Analysts say public sector job losses made up a significant portion of the decline.

They also note workforce participation remains below pre-pandemic levels, which could impact long-term economic growth and labor availability.

Officials say future reports may provide more clarity as additional data becomes available, particularly with delays in federal reporting.
