(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two Indiana State Police troopers from northeast Indiana are being recognized for their work both on the road and in a life-or-death emergency.

During the department's annual awards ceremony this week, Trooper Benjamin Walker, who patrols Steuben County, received the Top DUI Award for the Fort Wayne District. The honor is given to the trooper in each district who demonstrates exceptional effort in identifying and arresting impaired drivers.

Walker arrested 62 intoxicated drivers in 2025 and has served with the Indiana State Police since 2018.

Also recognized was Sgt. Adam Kitson, who received a Life Saving Award for his response to a critical emergency in DeKalb County.

On February 26, 2025, Kitson responded to a call along Interstate 69 involving a three-month-old child who was not breathing. When he arrived, the child's mother was performing CPR. Kitson immediately took over chest compressions while the mother continued rescue breathing.

An automated external defibrillator was brought to the scene, but a shock was not advised. Kitson and the child's mother continued CPR until firefighters and EMS crews arrived. The child later began breathing on their own.

State Police officials say Kitson's quick response and training played a key role in saving the child's life.

Both troopers were honored during the statewide ceremony recognizing service, dedication, and public safety efforts across Indiana.
