(STEUBEN & LAGRANGE COUNTIES) - Thousands of trout are being stocked across northeast Indiana, including waters in Steuben and LaGrange counties, ahead of the spring fishing season.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is releasing tens of thousands of trout statewide in streams and lakes to give anglers more opportunities as the season gets underway.

In LaGrange County, several streams and waterways connected to the Pigeon River system are among those that regularly receive trout stockings, with waters near the Steuben County line also included in the effort.

State officials say most trout are raised at the Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station in LaGrange County before being distributed across northern Indiana.

The stocking is timed ahead of the inland stream trout opener, while lake fishing for trout remains open year-round.

Anglers are reminded that daily limits and size restrictions apply, including limits on brown trout in certain lakes in LaGrange County.

DNR officials say freshly stocked waters often provide the best fishing conditions in the days and weeks following releases.
