(KINDERHOOK, MI) - A 64-year-old Kinderhook man is in the Branch County Jail after deputies say a violent altercation early Monday left another man in critical condition.

The Branch County Sheriff's Office says Jeffery Clyde Badgley was arrested after deputies were called around 12:30 a.m. to the 300 block of Southern Road.

Investigators say deputies determined the suspect used a weapon to assault the victim, leading to a preliminary felony charge of assault with intent to murder.

As part of the investigation, authorities also executed a search warrant on Huss Lea Lane to collect evidence.

The case involved assistance from the Branch County Sheriff's Office, Coldwater Police and local emergency medical services.

Sheriff Fred Blankenship says the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

As with all criminal cases, the charge is preliminary and all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
