(ANGOLA) - An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is facing charges in Steuben County after an investigation into illegal deer harvesting.
According to authorities, Indiana Conservation Officers first contacted Aaron Mauk at his Fishers home around 8:30 p.m. January 3 as part of the investigation. Officers spoke with Mauk again January 12.
During an interview, Mauk allegedly admitted to harvesting three deer in Steuben County in 2025 without the required license.
The Steuben County Prosecutor's Office filed charges March 3, including three misdemeanor counts of illegal taking of a wild animal and one misdemeanor count of providing false information to a check station.
IMPD Police Chief Tanya Terry was notified of the charges March 18 and placed Mauk on administrative duty.
The department's Internal Affairs unit has opened an investigation and will submit its findings to the chief for review.
