(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says new all-terrain track chairs will soon be available for free use at every Indiana State Park.
DNR officials announced that 45 electric-powered track chairs have been purchased to help visitors with limited mobility explore rugged trails and off-road environments. At least one chair will be available at each state park.
The all-terrain chairs operate on rubber tracks and are designed to safely travel across uneven ground that traditional wheelchairs cannot navigate.
The $1 million purchase was funded through a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The funding is part of a larger $50 million grant awarded to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in 2024 for upgrades and improvements across the state park system.
DNR officials plan to demonstrate the track chairs during a media event Tuesday morning at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. The demonstration will take place at 11 a.m. at The Garrison.
