(LANSING) - About 300,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members could lose in-network access to Michigan Medicine if the two sides fail to reach a new contract by June 30.

Bridge Michigan reports Blue Cross has begun notifying patients that the Ann Arbor-based health system could move out of network July 1 if negotiations remain stalled.

Blue Cross says Michigan Medicine is seeking a 44 percent increase in payments under a new contract. Michigan Medicine disputes that claim and says Blue Cross proposed cutting reimbursements by about 30 percent.

If no deal is reached, many Blue Cross and Blue Care Network members may need to switch doctors or pay higher out-of-network costs.
