(FORT WAYNE) - A fight over spilled French fries ended with a Fort Wayne man shooting his brother, and now a jury has found him guilty.

WANE-TV reports that 36-year-old Christopher Vibbert was convicted Thursday of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, and domestic battery, a Level 5 felony.

The charges stem from a Nov. 30, 2022 shooting in the 2300 block of Brooklyn Avenue.

Investigators say the argument began while Vibbert was driving and made a sharp turn that caused his brother's French fries to spill. Prosecutors say the dispute escalated into a fight before Vibbert shot his brother.

Authorities say Vibbert called 911 after the shooting and admitted he shot his brother in the chest and hand. Vibbert told investigators his brother attacked him first and claimed he acted in self-defense.

Court documents show Vibbert's brother told investigators he was shot well after the fight.

The shooting left the victim with life-threatening injuries.

The jury also found Vibbert guilty of using a firearm in the commission of a crime, which will be added as a sentencing enhancement.

Vibbert is scheduled to be sentenced April 10. He faces between three and 16 years in prison for aggravated battery, one to six years for domestic battery, and up to 20 years for the firearm enhancement.
