(GARRETT) - A passenger was injured Sunday morning after an SUV lost control on a snow-covered road in rural DeKalb County.

The crash happened around 8:24 a.m. at County Road 60 and County Road 327, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say a 2006 GMC Envoy driven by a 35-year-old Fort Wayne man was traveling north on County Road 327 when the driver lost control due to snowy conditions and speed. The vehicle spun, left the roadway and slid into a ditch on the east side of the road, sustaining heavy damage on the driver's side.

A 20-year-old passenger seated in the rear driver-side seat suffered facial injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver was not injured.

Garrett Fire Department, Parkview EMS and DeKalb County Central Communications assisted at the scene.
