(COLDWATER) - A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday evening after riding an electric scooter into the side of a vehicle at a downtown Coldwater intersection.

Police say the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. at West Chicago and Hanchett streets. Investigators report the teen was traveling west on the sidewalk and attempted to cross Hanchett Street against a "Don't Walk" signal and a red light for Chicago Street traffic.

As he entered the intersection, the scooter struck a 2023 Chevy Blazer driven by a 25-year-old Quincy woman who was turning right onto westbound Chicago Street on a green signal.

Emergency crews transported the teen to Insight Hospital and Medical Center with a possible hip injury.

Coldwater Police, assisted by the Coldwater Fire Department and Michigan State Police, responded to the scene.

Authorities ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Officer Koel Phillips at the Coldwater Department of Public Safety.
