(ANGOLA) - Trine University Theatre has announced the cast for its spring production, "Midsummer/Jersey," a fast-paced, modern reimagining of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream set on the boardwalk of a contemporary New Jersey seaside town.
The production transforms Shakespeare's classic comedy into a pop-fueled, high-energy story centered on the impending wedding of the governor of New Jersey, tangled romances among four beach-bound high school crushes, a mischievous group of fairies, and the staff of a local beauty salon run by Patti Quince and stylist Nikki Bottom.
Chaos erupts when Oberon and the impish Puck arrive armed with a powerful love potion, sending relationships spiraling and dragging everyone from starry-eyed lovers to would-be actors into a night of magical confusion -- complete with pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. March 26 and 27, and 2 p.m. March 28 at Trine University.
Tickets cost $10 for the general public, $5 for students ages 5-17, and are free for Trine students and employees. Tickets are available at trine.edu/furthtickets or at the door.
The cast features students from a wide range of academic programs, including engineering, education, psychology, cybersecurity, and design technology. The production is directed by Lou Ann Homan, Trine lecturer, with assistance from Lydia Roop, assistant director of student engagement, leadership and service.
Trine Theatre is part of the university's Department of Humanities and Communication.
