(AUBURN) - The Auburn Board of Works has awarded a $1.008 million contract for restoration work at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.

The board approved the bid Tuesday from JT Contracting LLC of New Haven, which submitted the lowest responsive bid among six firms, Mayor Dave Clark said.

The project is being supported in part by a $750,000 grant awarded last year by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, with the City of Auburn serving as a pass-through for the funding.

Museum officials have said the work will focus on preserving the exterior of the museum's historic Art Deco showroom. Planned improvements include brick repointing, masonry repairs, restoration of original windows and the front entrance, replacement of deteriorated cast-iron window lintels, and installation of UV-protective film and historically appropriate lettering.

In addition to awarding the contract, the Board of Works approved bid documentation, accepted the certified bid tabulation, updated grant-related paperwork, and authorized city officials to sign project documents ahead of the board's next meeting on Feb. 17.

A construction timeline was not discussed.
