(ANGOLA) - A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for the area until 10 a.m. Saturday as dangerous wind chills continue across northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and southwest Michigan.
Forecasters say wind chills could drop as low as 25 below zero.
Conditions will remain harsh throughout the advisory. Wind chills this afternoon are expected to range from 10 to 20 below zero before dropping again overnight into early Saturday.
The extreme cold poses a serious health risk. With wind chills this low, frostbite can develop on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Friday's forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, bitter cold temperatures and the chance for scattered snow showers. Snow chances increase Saturday, with snow showers expected to continue through Sunday night. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible during that time.
Officials urge residents to use caution if heading outdoors, dress in layers, and be sure to wear a hat and gloves. Travelers should also plan ahead as cold temperatures and snow may create hazardous conditions through the weekend. Pet owners are urged to bring animals inside. Those with outdoor animals should take care to provide adequate shelter, fresh unfrozen water, and extra feed.
