(CENTERVILLE) - A Bronson Township man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a fatal 2025 golf cart crash in White Pigeon Township.

Todd Gilbert, 56, was sentenced in St. Joseph County Circuit Court to five to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to operating under the influence of alcohol causing death and two counts of operating under the influence causing injury.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed several additional charges, including second-degree murder and possession of methamphetamine.

The crash occurred on July 1, 2025, when investigators say Gilbert's pickup truck rear-ended a golf cart traveling on Lake Road at a high rate of speed.

The golf cart driver, James Hansen, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife and granddaughter were seriously injured in the crash.

During sentencing, Paul Stutesman also imposed a concurrent sentence of 18 months to five years on the injury-related charges.
