(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - If you have frozen tater tots in your freezer, you may want to take a closer look.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says more than 38,000 cases of frozen potato products are being recalled nationwide after possible contamination with hard plastic fragments. The recall includes products sold in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, along with more than 20 other states.

The voluntary recall was issued by McCain Foods USA and affects two popular products: Ore-Ida Tater Tots and Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrels.

According to the FDA, about 21,000 cases of Ore-Ida Tater Tots were distributed across the Midwest and other regions. Additional cases of the Sysco product were also shipped to multiple states, primarily to food service locations.

The agency warns the products may contain clear, hard plastic pieces, which could pose a choking or injury risk if eaten. No injuries have been reported, but consumers are advised not to eat the recalled products.

Customers who purchased the affected items should discard them or follow return instructions provided by the seller. McCain Foods has not yet issued a public comment on the recall.

The recall is the latest in a string of recent FDA food safety alerts involving frozen and packaged foods.
