(ANGOLA -- Area residents interested in learning how to keep bees will have a chance to get started this winter through a new class series offered by Purdue University Extension.

The Beekeeping for Beginners series will be held February 14, February 21, and February 28, running from 9 a.m. to noon at Commons Hall, 501 S. John St. in Angola. The three-session course is designed for people with little to no beekeeping experience.

Topics will include beekeeping basics, hive setup, seasonal care, pests and diseases, honey harvesting, and general hive management.

The cost is $10 per adult for the entire series, and the program is free for youth. Registration is available at the Purdue Extension office, with support from Angola Parks & Recreation.

Organizers say the class offers a hands-on introduction for anyone interested in beekeeping, supporting pollinators, or exploring a new hobby ahead of spring.
