(INDIANAPOLIS) - Photographers across Indiana are invited to help showcase the state's historic places as the Indiana Department of Natural Resources' annual Historic Preservation Month photo contest gets underway.

The contest, hosted by the DNR Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, is open to photographers of all ages and skill levels and has been held since 2005 to highlight Indiana's historic resources. Entries are due by Friday, April 3.

To qualify, photos must feature Indiana structures or sites that are at least 50 years old. The properties do not need to be fully restored, but images of exclusively natural landscapes will not be accepted. All photos must have been taken within the past two years.

This year's contest includes five categories: Color, Black and White, Altered, Kids (under 18), and a special category focused on historic resources along Indiana's National Road. The theme ties into Historic Preservation Month and the nation's upcoming semiquincentennial, recognizing the first federally funded highway and the communities that grew along it.

Each photographer may submit up to three images, with one entry form required per photo. Entries must be submitted as JPEG files no larger than 10 megabytes and emailed to DHPAConnect@dnr.IN.gov

Full contest rules, guidelines and entry forms are available at on.IN.gov/preservation-month. Selected entries and winners will be featured on the Indiana DNR Instagram account during May in celebration of National Historic Preservation Month.
