(WILLIAMS COUNTY) - A Williams County man who had been evading police for weeks is now behind bars. Authorities say he struck a sheriff's deputy with his vehicle during a December pursuit.
Zachary McCague, 33, of Edon, was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on felony charges tied to a Dec. 8 incident that began with a reported domestic dispute. He faces charges of felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, and vandalism, and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
According to court records, deputies responded to a domestic call in Edon, but McCague left before officers arrived. When a Williams County sheriff's deputy later attempted a traffic stop, authorities say McCague refused to comply, accelerated, and struck the deputy and a patrol vehicle.
McCague fled the scene. His vehicle was later found abandoned at a gas station, prompting a warrant and a multi-week search.
No serious injuries were reported, but officials said the incident put officers and the public at significant risk.
McCague remains in custody. A future court date has not yet been scheduled.
