(INDIANAPOLIS) - U.S. Rep. Jim Baird was briefly hospitalized after being involved in a reported hit-and-run crash while traveling Monday evening, according to statements from his office and family.
Baird, who represents Indiana's 4th Congressional District, was taken to the hospital following the crash and was later released after spending less than 24 hours under medical care. His office said he is expected to make a full recovery and plans to continue his work on behalf of Hoosiers.
"Congressman Baird looks forward to continuing his work on behalf of Hoosiers," his office said in a statement, adding that constituent services remain fully operational.
In a social media post, Baird's son, Beau Baird, said the crash occurred as the congressman and his wife, Danise, were driving back to Washington, D.C. He confirmed both were stable and in good spirits.
There is no indication the crash was politically motivated, but described it as a hit-and-run.
Law enforcement is actively investigating and searching for the vehicle involved, according to the family.
Danise Baird continues to receive medical care as she recovers. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and well wishes as the investigation into the crash continues.
