Wednesday, October 7, 2020

Junior Kaliel Alisaid scored four goals to help lead the Trine University men's soccer team to a second half, 5-2, comeback win against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College at Weaver Field in Angola, IN.

The only goal of the first half came at the 7:16 mark and off the foot of a SMWC player for a 1-0 margin at the intermission.

Trine (3-0) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the second half as Alisaid recorded his first goal just 30 seconds in to even the game at 1-1. Less than four minutes later, Alisaid struck again, this time with a helper from freshman Joey Donovan, to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.

SMWC fought back and netted its second marker of the game during the 56th minute to even the score at two goals apiece. About a minute-and-a-half later, a pass from senior Trevor Towghi found the foot of Alisaid who put the shot past the Pomeroy netminder to complete the hat trick and regain the lead for Trine.

The goal also gave the Thunder the lead for good as it was a part of a string of three straight scores to seal the victory. Junior Connor Malmquist scored the team's fifth goal at the 68:21 mark which was set up by freshman Alhasan Yahya resulting in a 4-2 advantage.

Later in the period, Trine tacked on a final goal when Alisaid scored his fourth goal of the game just past the 73rd minute to complete an impressive second half offensive spurt by the Thunder and clinch the 5-2 final.

Freshman Troy Saylor played all 90 minutes in net and made two saves to get his third win of the season.

Trine is scheduled to host Adrian (MI) College in a non-conference game at Weaver Field on Saturday, Oct. 10. The two teams are set to kick off at noon.
