DNR says 76 Indiana Counties can Resume Feeding Birds
By: Tanner Holbrook - Tuesday, August 10, 2021

Indiana state officials say people in 76 counties across the state can resume feeding birds.

Bird feeding was halted statewide because of a mysterious illness that was killing off songbirds at the start of the summer.

Officials say feeders should be cleaned at least once every two weeks by scrubbing them with soap and water.

They say then to soak the feeder in a 10% bleach solution.

Officials say feeders should be thoroughly rinsed before use.

Officials say hummingbird feeders should be cleaned once a week with a 10% bleach solution and also rinsed thoroughly.

A few months ago, Officials said the illness was also affecting song birds in Michigan, too.

Officials say based on the data, the illness is consistently affecting specific areas.

Officials say residents in Allen County and St. Joseph County should still refrain from feeding birds.

If you see a dead or sick bird, with crusty discharge on the eyes, or neurological issues, report it to the DNR.
