Gas Prices Reach Three Year High
By: Sheila McCrea - Thursday, June 24, 2021

UNDATED - Gas prices in the area have reached a three year high.

According to the tracking site "Gas Buddy", it shows an average price of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded in the region.

A shortage of tanker truck drivers has caused a backlog of supply. There is plenty of gas, but it isn't all being distributed.

AAA says, the crunch will likely get worse. More drivers are expected to hit the highway this summer after last year's slow-down on travel.

Experts blame an increase in demand and the colonial pipeline shutdown. They expect that by the fall, oil production should rise again and bring prices down. However, the road will remain bumpy with hurricane season threatening to disrupt supply chains.

According to a recent survey from "Gas Buddy", 46% of Americans say their plans were impacted by high gas prices. 74% of those planning to take a road trip this summer plan to take at least two, further emphasizing the increased demand for gasoline.
