January Unemployment Rates Up Slightly In NE Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN– Jobless rates around NE Indiana were up slightly during the month of January.

According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Steuben County increased three-tenths of a percent from 3.3 percent to 3.6 percent. LaGrange County saw a slight increase in their unemployment rate, going from 2.6 percent in December to 2.7 percent in January.

Noble County saw an increase of three-tenths of a percent, going from 3.9 percent in December to 4.2 percent in January.

DeKalb and Elkhart Counties saw no change in their unemployment rates from December to January. DeKalb County stayed at 3.4 percent and Elkhart County at 3.5 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate for January was 4.2 percent, which was down from 4.6 percent in December, but still up a full point from January 2020 when it was 3.2 percent.
