DEKALB COUNTY - Friday afternoon Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a suicidal male with a gun in a White Mercedes Sprinter Van at the rest park on I-69 near the north bound 324 mile marker.

According to official reports, the male made a statement about using the gun if he saw any law enforcement or medical staff in the area. Officers then stopped all traffic on I-69 between mile markers 326 and 323. After traffic had been stopped, the van left the rest park northbound on I-69 and was stopped shortly after. The driver was taken into custody without incident and was treated by Parkview EMS at the scene due to self-inflicted injuries.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department then transported the male to Parkview Hospital for a mental evaluation. A loaded pistol was located in the van. The incident is still under investigation.
