MONTPELIER, OH - A Northwest Ohio man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed chase and crash that took place in Williams County Tuesday morning.

According to the Montpelier Police Department, the suspect, identified as Garret R. L. Wagoner, age 27 of Pioneer, is in custody after a short high-speed pursuit that started out of Montpelier. Montpelier Police Chief Dan McGee reported that at 6:45 a.m. officer Austin Batt attempted to pull over a black 2010 Volkswagen Passat on North Monroe Street for a traffic violation.

The vehicle immediately fled from the officer and continued north on SR 576 at a very high rate and reckless speed. The officer lost sight of the suspect vehicle and then located the vehicle a short time later. The suspect vehicle was involved in a single-car crash on CR 11 north of US 20. The vehicle went off the east side of CR 11 and came to rest within a field.

Once authorities identified Wagner, they learned he had a felony warrant outstanding for his arrest, from Steuben County Indiana. The warrant is for Failure to Return to Lawful Detention.

The suspect was transported to the Montpelier Hospital for treatment. After he was released he was charged with multiple charges, including possession of various drugs.

This incident remains under investigation.
