Michigan Leaders Say COVID Numbers Starting To Decline
By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, December 16, 2020

LANSING – Michigan leaders say it looks like the number of COVID-19 cases is starting to go down across the state.

During a Tuesday afternoon media briefing, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says Michigan has seen a drop in the number of COVID cases per million, which is at 560 per million. That has been dropping over the last 22 days. In addition, the number of hospital beds that have COVID patients is at 18.5 percent, which is also down.

Khaldun says the percent of tests coming back as positive is at 12.3 percent, which has been trending down for seven days. She says they are cautiously optimistic that there was no surge in cases post-Thanksgiving.

However, Khaldun did say some of the numbers are still alarming. There are now 437,985 total cases of COVID-19 in Michigan and there have been 10,752 deaths. Khaldun says Michigan needs to keep following the guidelines of wearing a mask and washing their hands frequently to keep these numbers moving downward.
