LaSata To Become Assistant Majority Floor Leader
By: Mike Stiles - Saturday, December 12, 2020

LANSING – State Senator Kim LaSata will be taking on some new responsibilities in 2021.

The Republican says she has been chosen by her peers to serve the Republican majority caucus as Assistant Majority Floor Leader for the 101st Legislature.

LaSata says she is humbled that her colleagues have entrusted her with serving their caucus by filling this position. While 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, LaSata says she is excited to see what Michigan can achieve together in the new year. She says Michigan families and small businesses have faced many challenges, through no fault of their own, and they deserve a State Government that not only listens to them but does more to support them rather than punish them.

The assistant majority floor leader's duties traditionally include assisting the majority floor leader in directing activities on the Michigan Senate floor. LaSata was elected in November 2018 to represent the people of the 21st Senate District, which includes St. Joseph and Cass Counties. In addition to serving as the assistant majority floor leader, LaSata chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Universities and Community Colleges and serves on several policy committees.

LaSata assumes her new role on Jan. 1. Senate Republicans have held the majority for 36 years.
