Holcomb Offers Update On COVID In Indiana
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, December 10, 2020

INDIANA – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is asking Hoosier residents to work together to help drive down the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

During a Wednesday afternoon media briefing, Holcomb shared that all 92 Indiana counties are now in red, according to the criteria used to measure the spread of COVID-19. With that being said, Holcomb says the State's emergency order has been extended once again.

Holcomb says with the increase in the number of COVID cases, Indiana hospitals are starting to become overwhelmed. With that in mind Holcomb is asking residents to hold off on all non critical in patient elective procedures for three weeks from December 16 until January 3.

Dr. Lindsay Weaver, the Chief Medical Officer for the Indiana Department of Health, says if approved, vaccines could be arriving in Indiana very soon. The initial doses will go to the five pilot hospitals, which are Clark Memorial in Jeffersonville, Deconess in Evansville, I.U. Methodist in Indianapolis, Community Hospital in Munster and Parkview in Fort Wayne.

Weaver says additional doses are expected to be available at 50 hospitals by the end of next week. All total, 55,575 doses will be coming to Indiana and will be used to vaccinate front line health care workers.
