LANSING – Some Republican members of the Michigan House of Representatives are working on proposing articles of impeachment.
In an article on Breitbart dot com, it was reported that these Republican representatives are proposing articles of impeachment on Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The article shares that State Representative Matt Maddock announced via Parler that he is working with Representatives Beau LaFave, Saire Rendon, Ryan Berman and Shane Hernandez on the articles.
In addition, newly elected Representatives Steve Carra of the 59th District and Ken Borton are supporting the initiative.
Carra spoke with WBET/FSR 99.7 FM and 1230 AM and explains how he came to be involved with this process. Carra says he was contacted by Maddock, who asked if Carra would be interested in showing his support to impeach Governor Whitmer. Carra says based on her continued abuses of power along with her unilateral and unconstitutional actions, he feels it's time to take this step.
The Michigan Supreme Court says Whitmer can't act unilaterally and now she's doing it through her Department heads. Carra says it's time to move on and have the 3 branches of government have our legislature work together and come up with a team based approach to tackle these types of situations.
In Michigan, the House of Representatives initiates an impeachment, and a majority vote is required. In the upcoming legislative session, Republicans will have a 58-52 majority.
Three representatives would be appointed to prosecute the impeachment case in the Michigan Senate. Two-thirds of senators must vote to convict the Governor in order for her to be removed. With Republicans holding a 22-16 majority in the Michigan Senate, at least three Democrats would need to vote for her removal.
