Monday, August 24, 2020

Ramzi M Al Jzazi

Steuben County, IN - Early yesterday morning, shortly before 2:00am, Indiana State Police Trooper Arthur Smith was patrolling the I-80/90 Toll Road construction zone near the westbound 153.8mm. Trooper Smith observed a 2019 Western Star semi-tractor/trailer coming into the construction zone at a high rate of speed, noting a radar track at 72 mph. This area of construction is restricted down to a single lane, with posted reduced speed limits of 45-55 mph.

As Trooper Smith pulled out and was catching up to attempt a traffic stop, he observed continued aggressive and reckless driving behavior. The semi-tractor maintained a high rate of speed, following to close and nearly striking a passenger car. Trooper Smith was able to get the semi-tractor stopped near the 152mm.

Upon first contact with the semi-driver, Ramzi M Al Jzazi, Trooper Smith observed a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the passenger compartment, and alcoholic beverage containers in plain sight. Conversation with Al Jzazi led Trooper Smith to believe their was obvious impairment, and a definite need for further investigation.

After conducting a battery of roadside field sobriety tests, Trooper Smith transported Al Jzazi to the Cameron hospital in Angola, for further testing. Once complete, Trooper Smith placed Al Jzazi under arrest and transported him to the Steuben County Jail. to be held pending an initial court appearance.

ARRESTED:

CHARGES:

1) Operating While Intoxicated Endangering, A Misd

2) Operating While Intoxicated, C Misd

In addition to being arrested for the above charges, Trooper Smith also placed Al Jzazi "out of service" for operating with any measurable amount of alcohol in his system, possessing alcoholic beverages in his truck while on duty, and having a false record of duty status (falsified log book entries).

Trooper Smith was assisted during his investigation by Tpr Zachary Mckenzie.
