Friday Evening Accident Injures Two People

DeKalb County, IN - Authorities are investigating an accident Friday evening where two people sustained injuries.

According to a report from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Lyle Renfrow, age 36 of Laotto, was traveling westbound in the 100 block of County Road 56 when he traveled left of center. Reports indicate he entered the ditch of the eastbound lane of travel and corrected out of it. Renfrow reportedly regained the roadway in the eastbound traveling lane where he struck a vehicle driven by Tracy Morris, age 47 of Ligonier.

Morris and her passenger, 53 year-old John Hatton of Laotto, both suffered injuries. Morris suffered a broken ankle. Hatton had complaints of pain and possible internal bleeding. Both Morris and Hatton were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Renfrow reportedly had no injuries and refused medical treatment.

Both Vehicles were totaled as a result of the Friday evening crash.


Dekalb County Investigators say “alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash”. The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department on scene was the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, Parkview DeKalb EMS, and the Laotto Fire Department.
